December Thoughts
Slowing down is easily said but harder to implement. We live in a fast world and have come to want to do things perfectly and rapidly. Humans don’t operate that way. We are slow beings. Slow to learn, slow to implement and even slower to change. Be easy on yourself as a creative. Learning takes time. Walking took you years to master. We all know that athletes take years to perfect their sport. It’s the same for crafting, knitting, painting or what ever you work on. To get to a level where you are making things that you truly like will take time. Give yourself grace and time to perfect your craft.
Once you have gained a level of skill you can venture out into other mediums. Crossover will happen. For example: color theory. A tricky subject for many but once you have mastered color theory then it applies to many activities. Ditto for painting: understand watercolor and acrylic paints make sense. Gouache is a combo of the two. Oil is it’s own beast, a very pretty one done well. Any of them make mud done poorly.
All of this is to say that you should continue to play and experiment, hone your craft and then others will come easily.
