Creativity Hack #5

Meditate and Journal

These two are intertwined for many artists. Spending ten to thirty minutes a day sitting quietly seems counter intuitive but meditation does amazing things for you brain and your ability to focus during the day. Meditation also brings a sense of calm to the day. Have no fear if your brain keeps wandering, it will do that. Like creativity you must practice and keep at it. Give meditation time in your life and time will be given to you.

Julia Cameron started the morning pages practice that many artists and non-creatives use daily. Spending ten minutes journaling out your dreams, hopes, wishes clears all of that from your brain so you have room to think.

Keeping the brain free of clutter is super important to achieving the flow state of super creativity. Write out all the little stuff that is niggling at you, then the big stuff. What are you going to work on? What up coming projects are you dreaming of? New materials to play with? All of it counts. Put it on paper.
