Two Weeks in One Pack
My husband and I both took 40 liter carry ons and a smaller personal item bag for two weeks in England. While the thought may be daunting to pack as much as possible into as small as possible space, it can be done!
I packed two pants, one light weight, the other a bit warmer and a pair of capris. Four t-shirts that washed out easily in the sink at night and were dry by the next day. A puffy vest, light weight zip up jacket and long sleeve pullover. Windbreaker and umbrella got regular use on rainy days. I had several pairs of socks, which I never wore, it was too warm. Bras and underwear. A note on underwear, save those old ones that you are ready to toss. Take them with you on trips like this and then toss them before you head home. Lightens the load on the way back. of course well know that the liquids have to fit in the quart bag.
I also had a pair of light weight water resistant shoes along with my Chaco sandals. I wore the shoes once or twice. Comfortable shoes are super important, you must be able to walk miles in what ever you have on your feet over uneven surfaces.
With that kit, I could have kept going for another two weeks, then the cooler temps would have made assortment a bit too chilly to wear. When it’s cold I like to layer with light weight base layers over my outer pants and shirts. That extra layer helps keep one warm. Don’t forget a good scarf, they are great to keep you warm and for dress up if needed.
My personal carry on was full of snacks, reading material, sketch book and supplies. I always take an empty water bottle with me and fill it in the airport. Bottle fillers are not as common in the UK as they are in the US. I would expect that to change as time goes on. Americans are still the top of the list for bringing personal water bottles with them.
Snacks! Oh so glad I packed a good amount of snacks. The meal service both directions was dismal. Going I am not sure why, maybe just the state of affairs for air travel these days. Coming home, the Queen’s funeral messed up the catering service the planes received. This trip re-enforced my thoughts on bringing lots of snacks that you enjoy on the plane with you. Also, don’t count on being able to pick up food at the airport. Our transfer time in Denver was about 25 minutes, barely enough time to hit the restroom and find the next gate.
