What is Creative Travel?

Creative Travel can be many things, to me it is getting out of town and being creative while I am out of town. Travel for a workshop, fly to Europe and sketch the entire time, visit museums in a new city for creative inspiration. It is well documented that people who travel are more open, accepting and willing to try new things.

That willingness to try new things leads to more creativity which fosters more motivation. If you are motivated then the creative muse visits and suddenly you are much more productive in your art projects. This works for all of us, even when art or creative work is a hobby.

Planning your trip and assembling your creative kit is part of the build up to going somewhere. Even my local, six hour away trip had me anticipating the sketches, sights and new experiences. One thing I have learned in traveling with my husband is that he is good if I stop and sketch. Sometimes I have to plan a few hours on my own to get my sketching in. The right travel companions are important!

Destination, what to expect when you get there is key knowledge. For example, going to the UK without an umbrella might be a mistake. I would say the same thing about going to Central America during rainy season. Pack your clothes and tools with care and forethought.

When I went to England I anticipated rain some of the time, that was what we got! I used my umbrella frequently and was happy I gave it room in my carry on pack. Ditto for the sketching materials. Astoria, Oregon called for the Gortex rain coat that was used just about every day. My sketching happened during sun breaks!  Planning makes a trip.

Where to go? With whom? When? How much to spend and where to stay? These can be overwhelming questions for most of us. I am putting together a trip maybe two or three to interesting European destinations where we will be creative, explore and have a good time.

Making new friends when you travel is huge. Not only does it add a layer to the creative mojo that you mop up while traveling, you come home with a new BFF! Or perhaps a whole new group of friends who want to do more creative travel together!

It will tell me where you all want to go and allow me to assemble the best trip possible for all of us. No spam, I see the email list, not the tour company!
