The Art of Consistency

I speak frequently about doing some art daily. If you play an instrument, you know that you need to practice daily, ditto for exercising. Over the last many months that I have painting near daily, I have seen my art change into something that I am really happy with. While it may only in the eye of the beholder that the art is where you want it, it feels good to have making art that makes me feel really good.

If you have followed me for any length of time, you have seen the art, my blob paintings as I call them. They have evolved and are continuing to evolve into collages of sorts.   By adding marks and acrylic inks they are changing into complete works. I have pulled some of my earlier pieces and am adding more layers to them. I recently gleaned many ideas of making marks and how to add them from work I did 20 years ago that I recently uncovered and looked at. So you never know what will inspire you and when it will descend into your world.

This is all by way of saying, don’t give up on yourself and your work. Keep at it even it if seems like they are destined for the garbage can. Save some to play on at a later date. You might be surprised at what a little inspiration from other artists on Instagram or Pinterest can do for you!

Also, explore your materials. Pull out pens and other ways to make marks. Use mediums that you usually don’t enjoy, they might add that needed bit of interest to make the piece sing!
