Personal Work

A smoky atmosphere make sunrise and sunset colorful.

I have been doing a fair amount of personal work lately. You would think that being done with chemotherapy I would be happy and feel free to go about my life. But cancer changed all of that for me. Cancer has become the first warning sign that the end could happen at anytime. While I have plans to go on for another 30 years, I am also aware that my plans could change any moment.

With the knowledge that life is precious and I am enjoying this existence, what would improve it, make it even better? Yes, having lots of money makes things easier but not necessarily happier. I feel content but yearn for more adventure, exploration, that extra something that adds a delightful edge to life. For me that is travel and teaching. Those two pieces contribute to my life in amazing ways.

Knowing that in 30 years, which sounds like a lot, but goes by in a flash, that I might not be able to travel and do the things I enjoy now is impetus to get going and do things now. Say I have 32 years left to thrive on this planet, that is 1664 Mondays left. That’s it! Not that many really. Make use of those precious Mondays and all the other days of the week. (see https://fourthousandmondays.com for more on this theme)

So what is the personal work that you need to do? What will it take for you to put a stake in the ground, make a commitment and get working on your dreams? While I am still wading through life with a sluggish thyroid I am more and more motivated to pound that stake in the ground and make my dreams happen!

What are you doing today that will help the you of tomorrow? Are you in shape today so that the you of tomorrow can easily put your luggage in the overhead bin on the airplane? Can you get up off the floor without using your hands?

Personal work adds up to great things if you do it. Goal setting next month!
